Your child’s grade is determined by the following:
  1. Conduct – 35%

Proper behavior, how the student works in a group, and how they display self control and Christian attitude and behavior

  1. Being prepared and on time – 30%

PreK 3/4 and K - wear sneakers

Grades 1 and 2 – change of clothes and sneakers in a gym bag and change in 7 minutes or less at the beginning and end of class

Grades 3 and 4- school required physical education uniform, sneakers in a gym bag and change in 7 minutes or less at the beginning and end of class

  1. Effort – 30%

How hard the student tries during each class, how attentive they are, and how well they follow directions.

  1. Achievement – 5%

Physical ability in individual units (see below for unit development)

 

Curriculum and Individual units- “Creative Movement Education”

(are as follows but not limited to)

PreK 3/4 – Kindergarten students

Physical Movement

            Safety:  Become aware of personal space.

            Body Awareness: Identify body parts.

            Move in Space: Develop skills to walk in/on a line, run, hop, jump, skip, and gallop.  Use directionality: forward, backward, toward, sideways, left and right. They will also make bilateral and unilateral movements.  All movements will be done safely and without “breaking their bubble.”

Gross Motor skills

            Balance: Develop skills to balance on one foot, tiptoes, and walk across a balance beam.

Gross Motor: Develop skills to throw/kick, bounce/catch a large and small ball, use stairs alternating feet, and coordinate the movement of legs and arms.

K-3rd grade students

Warm-up activity is part of every class. Stretching and strengthening muscles, as well as cardiovascular development are included during warm-ups.  It is important that each student eventually understands the purpose of warming up before any physical activity:      

a. prevent injury

      b. to get the most from your body during every performance

Skills and concepts developed throughout the units:

  1. Safety- “safe through space”
  2. Listening skills and following directions
  3. Identifying body parts
  4. Spatial concepts
  5. Directionality
  6. Cooperative learning
  7. Gross motor development
  8. Math skills-counting, shapes, identify numbers, adding, less and more than concepts, and size discrimination.
  9. Science and Health- body part identification, hygiene, healthy eating habits.  
  10. Reading and Language Arts-alphabet recognition and letter forming, following directions (verbal and visual),  movement to creative stories
  11. Hand-eye and foot-eye coordination
  12. Gymnastics- flexibility, strength, coordination, balance, body control, body placement, unilateral, and bi-lateral movement.
  13. Relays and simple games- the focus on doing your “best” and not necessarily on winning.

4-8th grade students
