Hello and welcome to 2nd Grade!

My name is Maria Augustine and I am incredibly honored to be a teacher here at St. Andrew's Country Day School.  I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree from Daemen College and my Masters in Education Degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach.  This is my 10th year here and I have taught both Kindergarten and 1st Grade.  This year I will be teaching second grade!  I am committed to achieving academic and moral excellence and value the importance of engaging students with a meaningful curriculum while ensuring that each becomes an active participant in the learning process.

I have also served as the Lead Advisor to our National Junior Honor Society for the last 5 years.  This position allows me to work with 7th and 8th Graders in our school. The National Junior Honor Society was founded in 1929 in the hopes of creating an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy. The ideals of character, scholarship, leadership, service, and citizenship remain as relevant today as they were in 1929. Through the NJHS chapter service activities and academic standards, members maintain and extend the qualities that won them selection.  I truly enjoy working with these students on various service activities in and out of school.

My husband, Robert, and I have three wonderful children and a very energetic and loving dog, Bandit.  We enjoy spending time together and love driving to Myrtle Beach where we can relax and enjoy the sunshine.  We also feel privileged that our girls graduated from St. Andrew's and that our son is a student here.  We wouldn't have them go anywhere else!

I love coming to school, teaching and learning, and I adore each of my students!  They have a way of staying in my heart long after leaving my classroom.  I look forward to our time together as it is truly a gift to be their teacher at such a pivotal time in their lives!  I especially enjoy reading and hope to write children's books in the future.

Now that you know a little about me, I look forward to meeting you.  Please feel free to contact me through the school office (716) 877-0422 or email me at maria.augustine@standrewscds.org.
