Welcome to Theme-Writing Class!
My name is Mrs. Nicosia (formerly known as Miss Sarzyniak J) and I am happy to be starting my seventh year teaching at St. Andrew’s Country Day School. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree from Niagara University and my Masters degree in Literacy from Buffalo State College. I have Professional NYS Teaching Certification for grades 5-12 English/Language Arts and as a Literacy Specialist for grades 5-12.
I love my job here at St. Andrew’s because it provides me with an environment that I value—wonderful partnerships between faculty and families, a strong focus on writing and creativity, and a faith-filled community. I was married this summer at St. Andrew’s Church because I consider St. Andrew’s to be like my second home.
One of my favorite parts of teaching writing is the personal connection I have with every student through the writing pieces they submit and the feedback that I offer for improvement. I am very excited to teach one section of sixth grade ELA this year to an awesome group of hard-working students! I look forward to a fantastic school year, and I aim to equip students with strategies to meet any challenge, and instill in them confidence to be lifelong learners and writers.
For the past four years I have also been the advisor for St. Andrew’s Drama Club, which has been a rewarding and challenging experience. I am also an avid reader, writer, hiker, and, of course, Buffalo Bills fan!
