1st Grade News

1st graders have made a smooth return back after a fun filled Christmas vacation. We got right back to work and have begun a chapter about plants. We are also going to begin a new chapter in religion and another unit in social studies. Spelling words are beginning to get more difficult, as are vocabulary words. We will be starting a chapter in math on geometry and fractions.

As we move forward, the work may become more challenging and may require a little extra study time at home. Please encourage your child to read nightly. It is also extremely important for your child to memorize their math facts (addition and subtraction through 18). Your child will have an easier time with more complex math concepts such as double and triple digit addition and subtraction, multiplication and division if they know their facts automatically.

On a happy note, we look forward to Catholic Schools week at the end of the month. It is always a week filled with many fun activities, such as roller skating and a pep rally. We will also have an open house on the last Sunday of the month. Please encourage friends and neighbors to attend. We want everyone to know what a wonderful school we have.

Thank you for all you do for your child and St. Andrew's!
