Homework

You will have a homework assignment almost every night.  Homework will be assigned and started in class and whatever is not completed during class time will be finished for homework.  This homework should not take long to finish, ten minutes tops.  All work must be shown on homework assignments since this directly prepares you for the state exam.

If you are struggling on an assignment, please make sure you see me in the morning before announcements so we can go over the problem.  I will need to see some attempt at working through the problem though.  You can also go on the Holt website and go through a tutorial of how to work through the problems in the section assigned for extra help.  I will take you through how to do this.

One last note, if you inadvertently forget your textbook at home, the book is online.  I will also show you how to view this.

Students are expected to write their assignments in their planners, to complete assignments to the best of their abilities, and to bring assignments to class on the day they are due.

If a student does not have his/her assignment on the due date, the following procedure will be used:

·         The teacher will deduct 10% credit the first day.

·         The teacher will deduct an additional 10% the second day.

·         If the student has not turned the assignment in by the third day, the parent will be contacted and the student will make up the assignment during after-school detention, lunch-detention, or during free time (primary grades).  The student will receive a grade that will be multiplied by .75.

·         If the student is receiving remedial services or services based on a 504 or an IEP plan, the Child Study Team will receive notification of missing work.

·         If a student receives more than 3 (three) missing homework notifications, they will be assigned lunch-detention, after-school detention or loss of free time for primary students.

·         If late assignments become habitual (the student has served three homework-related detentions), a parent/teacher conference will be held to discuss implementation of a plan to increase the student’s compliance with the homework policy.

Short quizzes will usually be given every Friday.  These quizzes will cover the topics that we have discussed during the week.  The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.           For tests, you will be given at least one weeks notice and what topic(s) will be covered on the test.  Additional practice can be done to prepare for these tests by going online and reviewing using the Holt website.

All tests will be sent home for a parent’s signature regardless of the grade.  Signed tests that are returned the day after they are given back, will receive an extra credit point on the test.

You will have the opportunity to receive extra credit points on your lowest chapter test each marking period.  Attached is what is to be done for the extra credit.  I will assign due dates for all the four marking periods.  These due dates will be written in planners during the first week of school.  You will be reminded of the due dates as they approach, but if you would like to complete all and hand them in before they are due, this is acceptable to.

If you miss class due to an absence or Band practice, it is your responsibility to get the material you missed.  Please get the notes from a classmate and be sure to check the homework board for the assignment.  If you miss a test/quiz, you will take it upon your return to school.  Attending Band practice is important, but I ask that you reschedule if there is a test/quiz during your scheduled Band time.

Teacher's Bio.

Welcome Back!  I would like to introduce myself, my name is Candace Wlodarczyk and I have been teaching at St. Andrew’s for over 11 years.   My goal as a middle school Math teacher is to provide my students with the knowledge and understanding of the mathematics necessary to function in a world very dependent upon the application of mathematics.  Along with the curriculum, I will be preparing my students for the New York State exam and Regents exam.

At any time during the course of the school year, feel free to contact me with any concerns that you may have.  Open communication is an integral part of the success of my students.
